Scholarship Pitfalls

Scholarships are not only for college! Many scholarships are offered for post secondary education (such as: college, technical school, culinary, etc).  Please check the scholarship criteria carefully to see if applicable to your situation!

FAILURE TO CHECK FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: Remember to check the Guidance webpage http://www.torrington.org/page.cfm?p=283 for scholarships that become available. Scholarships are added on a frequent basis so please be sure to check it at least once a week!

FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS: Many submitted applications are disqualified because all requested and necessary documentation have not been submitted with the application. READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!

BEWARE OF DEADLINES: Failure to adhere to stated deadlines can cause you to lose out on scholarship opportunities. Plan of action – Complete and submit your applications well before the deadline.

ENVELOPE & STAMP(S): When an original transcript is required to be sent with a scholarship application, please remember to provide a stamped envelope addressed to the scholarship organization together with a signed Transcript Release form (make sure proper postage is on envelope)! Again….. be aware of deadlines! Transcript releases,  teacher recommendations, etc., take time to assemble so please submit applications at least 5 days prior to the deadline date!

FAILURE TO SUBMIT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: Many students are eligible for scholarships but DO NOT submit the completed applications. You won’t be considered for a scholarship if an application is not submitted or is incomplete.

NOTE:Scholarships are not only for seniorsStart looking for scholarships in 9th grade. Use www.fastweb.com and scholarshipguidance.com. The only person who is guaranteed not to get a scholarship is the one who doesn’t apply.

Oregon Trail Community Foundation Scholarships
Application Deadline:  April 1 2023

The Oregon Trail Community Foundation has offered scholarships to our Panhandle community (and beyond!) for over 40 years. Now with over 20 scholarship offerings, we are excited to offer students the ease and efficiency of applying for our scholarships online!

All scholarships will need to be applied for online now – there will not be the availability of downloadable applications anymore. This is to make our application screening and awarding process easier and more efficient for our volunteer scholarship committee too!

And then of course, there is less paper waste, and less postage. Students will be notified via email from us if they have been awarded a scholarship. Likewise, all future correspondence with each student awarded a scholarship will be via email.

It is so easy to apply – and takes just minutes to complete.  Applicants will need to have a digital copy of their transcripts, essays and letters of recommendation handy to upload. They will be required to set up login information, so if they need to save and come back to their application, they can do that! The best part? They need only apply once. Our new system will automatically apply them to whatever scholarships they qualify for. So they will no longer need to apply for each scholarship individually.

Information on each scholarship is listed on their website. Students are encouraged to visit their website, and become familiar with the offerings.
